South Australian Country Women’s Association Incorporated (SACWA)
SACWA, if you’re like me, I’ve known this organisation as CWA and became aware of it when I moved to Cherry Gardens over 33 years ago when I joined the Cherry Gardens Country Fire Service.
Ladies in the Cherry Gardens community were involved in the CWA at this time and would support the Cherry Gardens CFS brigade when needed. They would supply food, drinks and refreshments for all the CFS volunteers who were involved in the ongoing incident. They even went above and beyond this by child minding our children whilst we were busy in the radio room dealing with the incident.
I was only aware of them because of their support with the CFS. However, little did I know at the time just what this organisation was really all about?
Just over a month ago I saw an invitation on Facebook to attend a meeting, so I went along to find out what the SACWA is all about. It was held at the Upper Sturt Hall, and as my curiosity had got the better of me, I decided I wanted to learn more.
This organisation is made up of volunteers who work to promote the welfare and conditions of life for women and children of all ages, whether in the city, or the country.
If your interest or curiosity is anything like mine, and you would like to learn more about this wonderful organization, then please let me know by emailing the Cherry Chatter at cherrychatter@yahoo.com
If there is any interest in our community, then I will arrange for an information evening which could be held at the Cherry Gardens Memorial Hall.
If, after this meeting there is enough interest from members of our community to once again become members of the SACWA, then we can discuss it after the meeting.
I hope to hear from you soon
