Cherry Church
‘Consider how the wild flowers grow. They do not labour or spin. Yet I tell you, not even Solomon in all his splendour was dressed like one of these. If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today, and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, how much more will he clothe you—you of little faith! And do not set your heart on what you will eat or drink; do not worry about it. For the pagan world runs after all such things, and your Father knows that you need them. But seek his kingdom, and these things will be given to you as well.’
Luke 12: 27–31
Autumn is upon us and, across the valley from the Cherry Church, the tree nursery’s tints are changing into different, more colourful hues. And as Autumn brings these alterations to the natural world, we also enter the Christian season of Lent, the precursor to Easter.
During times when the world as we have known it is under duress – in public health, in finance, in politics and in social morality – it is important to know that, at Easter, Jesus of Nazareth was entering that phase of His life where he took all the world’s hurt and all our transgressions onto himself. His death on the cross was undeniably the cruellest punishment known to the Roman Empire. If his death had been all there was, it would have been a singular disaster, both then and in the future.
However, the focus of Easter is not only on the passion of Jesus, but also on His resurrection. Its burst of new life has brought hope for humanity and has made the resurrection the centrepiece of all time, of all history.
Easter brings light to the world; clarity and stability in the midst of social, political and medical turmoil. It is a time for rejoicing and for understanding the wonder of new life.
As a place of Christian worship, the Cherry Church and its lively congregation welcomes everyone to drop in. Sunday morning worship is held each week at 9.30 am, followed by a cup of tea. Please come and join us, we’d love to see you.
