The Moddies (mini Thunderer’s) had their Guernsey Presentation on the last Tuesday evening in April. Elijah Ware, Josh Rosman, Connor Lidstone and Fern Thomson Van Loon were there to help present the guernseys. Some of the Senior Men’s A's and under 18s helped cook the sausage sizzle for the kids. Nigel Downes was brilliant and manned the bar all night until 10ish. It was a really good night and the kind of stuff that makes our community proud!
Unlike last season where our moddies could not win a game so far this season they have had 6 wins and Matt, the Moddies Coach, will shave his head down to the skin - including beard and eyebrows - if the kids win 10 of the 12 games this season... Go Mini Thunderers!!
Our junior teams this year have combined with the Bridgewater club and have seen more wins than losses which is very encouraging as we rebuild the junior ranks of the club. The other week all junior teams came up against Hahndorf which is one of the strongest clubs int eh Hills and came away with good wins in all 3 games which is the first time ever our club has achieved this. The only challenge for our juniors has been that combining with Bridgewater has meant we have had to share our home games with them and so our boys are travelling more than we would like.
The seniors had a rough start to the season with more losses than wins however have bounced back in recent weeks and are now just in top half of the ladder. We have been plagued with injuries which has not helped but everyone is training hard and the players believe they will finish the season strongly.
The women have had a mixed bag but are loving their footy.
We want to remind all locals about Thursday nights and getting yourself a great feed. Ironbank and Cherry Gardens has no shop, no pub or no "town' - despite the club song declaring, "there's a footy team in town..." But we do have awesome Thursday Night meals at the Club this time of year.
Come in for a feed and enjoy the hospitality and the atmosphere.
