Football Club
Hello Cherry Chatter readers.
Exciting times at the football club as we near the end of the season. Very good chance that all our teams, with the exception of our U12 lads, will play finals and with only 2 games left of the minor round (as of August 7th) it looks very promising that the B’s will finish on top of the ladder and the A’s at least in second place and both these are great results for our club and the players.
Our Women’s team finished as minor premiers and this Wednesday the medal count for the Adelaide Football League for their division will be held at the club. A couple of our ladies have a very good chance of getting a good number of votes so we wish them well and congratulate the team on their efforts so far this year. The women will be playing their Grand Final at the ALDI Arena which is the old Thebarton Oval on August 19th at 10am and we are hoping to get a good turnout of supporters to cheer these girls on to the first female premiership for the club ever!
Our last home game is this coming weekend against Meadows and then the following week we come up against Torrens Valley with both games being must wins to maintain our ladder positions. 2018 has been a good year for the club, not just on the field but also with our off-field functions. In the last month the players held the annual Thunderball which was a Miami theme and they had the club setup a treat. With lots of dancing to good music they let off steam and had a great night.
Overall this season has been quite good weather wise although pretty cold for some games but the weather seems to have broken and the last couple of games have been a bit wet and windy. We have suffered a few nasty injuries late in the season which is unfortunate for the players but also a challenge for the club as we head to finals.
Come and support your teams
As we head into the finals end of the season I would like to invite you, the locals, to come along and support your teams. After all finals games we put on meals in the clubrooms and the player presentations will start at 6pm.
On Thursday nights we will continue to serve meals for the players, families and supporters and locals are always welcome. There is a range of food provided including soup, schnitzels, chicken nuggets for the kids and lasagne or some other specials. Hope you can join us.
