Editorial
The Cherry Gardens Memorial Hall Committee has, as one of its main objectives, the running of a number of functions each year to provide an opportunity for the local community to come together.
For the past 2 years the current committee has held a Community Campfire in August / September, and intends to hold another this year (watch for details) and will hold the second Community Dinner on 30th June this year.
Community Dinner
Last year the dinner was a sell-out, and we had many encouraging comments from those who attended. In this issue of the Cherry Chatter you will find a flyer providing more information on the dinner, and you are encouraged to book early as we expect to have another full house. Note that bookings are essential and will close on June 15th unless sold out earlier.
About the Memorial Hall
The Cherry Gardens Memorial Hall is one of only a few halls in the Onkaparinga Council area which is NOT Council owned. (It is, in fact, owned by the Community of Cherry Gardens.) This means that the voluntary Committee, voted in by the Hall Members at the AGM each year, is responsible for the upkeep, maintenance, repairs and all the other myriad of activities that are involved in the running of the hall, on behalf of the community. The Council provides an annual Maintenance Grant to assist in the upkeep, and the committee is charged with raising funds to meet all other costs. The hall is the venue for a number of local activities, including the Anzac Day breakfast, following the service at the Memorial Gardens, and the Cherry Church Christmas Carols.
The hall is available for hire, and we would encourage local people to make use of the hall for functions. Hire rates are very reasonable, and discounts are provided for hall members. Membership is just $5 a year or $12 for a family.
The hall is an important asset of the community, and has a proud history. We have established a photo array in the foyer; please feel free to browse next time you are there. If you have any photos of historical interest in connection with the district, we would welcome your contact. To keep in touch with what is happening at the hall, you can befriend us on Facebook.
