Dear Friends,

Already the paddocks are drying, and spring is saying hello in the garden. The calendar changes and suddenly here comes Christmas. We are looking forward to seeing you all at the Community Christmas Carols, Tuesday 17 December 6:30pm for children’s activities with the program beginning at 7:30pm. With the help of the Tabor music program, the Sherrahs, Rebeka Nelson, the local council, McDonalds Travelling Farms, Nifty Entertainment and the Hall Committee we have been able to provide a full program again this year.

It is with great sadness we learnt of Merri Stoddart’s passing. Merri was a valued member and organist at Cherry Church pumping the old pedals with gusto. Her family lived in the area for many years. We extend our love and prayers to Sara and Ben.

A long time ago I used to share my recipes with you all in the Cherry Chatter, now my children are older although still hungry. I am privileged to share with friends and family extending the hand of hospitality. Preparing for Christmas reminds me of this. More than once we have shared the loaves and fishes and made the meal stretch for more to feed. We needn’t worry if the floor is messy or the washing is out, it is more important to welcome each other and feel blessed when people drop in.

You are all very welcome to drop in on a Sunday morning to Cherry Church and share in morning tea afterwards.

Here is my favourite Christmas recipe, handy to have on standby and given to me by mother-in-law 30 years ago!!

Somerset Shortbread

250 grams of butter
125 grams of icing sugar
250 grams plain flour
125 grams corn flour
Pinch of salt

  • Mix all ingredients together, rub in until well mixed and crumbly in appearance.

  • Put into a lined tin and press well down.

  • Cook 35 to 40 minutes at 160 to 170 c

  • Allow to cool a little in the tin before cutting into fingers and cool.
