Football Club

Happy New Year to all the Cherry Chatter readers from the Football Club.

So even though we are still in the summer season of Cricket and Tennis it does not mean that we are not already working hard as a club towards the football season which is only 1 month away from round one (April 6th). The program for our club is included here and we would invite all locals to come along and enjoy the community based football that we are so lucky to have here in our district.

There is a home game every fortnight and this year we will see the return of all junior teams so the home rounds will start with the U14’s at 8.30am followed by the U16’s then U18’s and in the afternoon the B’s followed by the A’s which kick off at 2.30pm. We will also be playing the 2 female teams this year and it will be a real Hills competition with Open Women’s teams entering the comp from towns such as Onkaparinga Valley, Birdwood, Bridgewater and Aldinga (our longest trip). We will meet again teams from last season such as Kangarilla and Nairne. Our U16 girls team will actually be playing as part of the HFL competition but as of yet we have not heard which clubs will field U16 sides. Anyway for our club it is a very exciting year with so much to look forward to and trying to go one better for our A’s this year.

The preseason training has already commenced for all teams and the numbers have been really good on the track. If there was anything that we needed for this year it is probably just some more volunteers to help out and do their bit. As they say many hands make light work and with there being more teams playing it means we need more volunteers to give up just a bit of their time on a roster to either help out with one of the teams as a Trainer, boundary runner, goal umpire or maybe do an hour or so at home games in the canteen. It makes a big difference if there are a few more people helping out.

Also if there are any local businesses that would like to sponsor the club then please come and talk to us any Thursday night or give us a call on 0417 865 044. We are happy to talk to you either over the phone or face to face.
